CBS: Trump administration ends aid for northwestern Syria

The Trump administration has withdrawn all assistance from Northwest Syria, according to administration officials. This is the newest demonstration of the administration's intent to briskly exit the country once ISIS is fully defeated.

The decision, made through an inter-agency process over the last few weeks, will mean that tens of millions of dollars will be cut off from previous U.S.-backed efforts to strengthen and stabilize the local society. Projects included countering violent extremism, supporting independent society and independent media, strengthening education, and advocating for community policing. The region will become the first area of the country where, other than humanitarian aid, the U.S. is officially disengaging.

Nation building is a fools errand in the Middle East. It’s wisdom in the USA.

The liberals have never cared for the Kurds. I have not heard them voice so full throatedly as conservatives have.

If Trump does not leave, he'll be a warmonger. He already is in their eyes, but now they will double down.

If Trump does leave a few libs will say but the Kurds but more form a college debate point of view to score points. The MSM will print reports of Kurdish massacres not out of love of the Kurds but to score points.

Without broad public support it may be best to withdraw so less extend the military and concentrate on Afghanistan.

Still in a year or two we'll be back.

Anon,

Are you deceitful or merely forgetful or ignorant?

The Battle of Afrin was about 2 months ago. Most people forget current events after 2 weeks. So I forgive you. You are merely forgetful.

"The people are mostly Arabs. Kurds and Turkmen are found mostly in the northern districts. The Kurds are found mostly in Afrīn and Ayn Al-Arab. "

"The primary languages of the province are Arabic and Kurdish."

So there are no Kurds in the Northwest?

Smith: It was under Obama that we worked with the kurds; it is under Trump we are deserting them. Why? Putin's orders
you continue to bore

Odumba did not support the Kurds not willingly anyway. Proof of that is the Battle for Kobane. Obas____ was dragged kicking and screaming into defending Kobane. I remember those weeks. We were all asking why that bas____ does not do anything. The polls started going south so the Flexible one finally let the Air Force do its job.

How do you propose supplying special forces if it cannot be done from Incirlik Air Base, genius?
